Like other people who experience the effects of ADHD, there are times when I may appear to be absent-minded, clumsy or disorganized. The symptoms of untreated ADHD can lead to emotional dysregulation, which means being unable to control one's responses to stimuli happening around them. These are effects that make life difficult for those who have been diagnosed with ADHD as well as those who have ADHD but are undiagnosed (side note: there is no such thing as ‘everyone is a little bit ADHD’).

If you have been reading me for a while, you will know that I was diagnosed late at age 52 with ADHD. As an adult diagnosed with ADHD, it was exciting and frustrating that I had learned the reason for the struggles I experienced as a young person growing up in Toronto's dynamic, growing city.

It took three months on a waitlist for my ADHD assessment, performed by the Possibilities Clinic in Toronto. While they were excellent in every way other than the price tag, it was still a 5-month process before I received my final diagnosis and initial treatment plan.
